Townsville Central State School follows the Australian Curriculum in all learning areas.  The Australian Curriculum is designed to teach students what it takes to be confident and creative individuals and become active and informed citizens. It sets the goal for what all students should learn as they progress through their school life – wherever they live in Australia and whatever school they attend.

From the first year of schooling to Year 10, students develop knowledge and skills in eight learning areas:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Health and Physical Education (HPE)
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
  • The Arts
  • Technologies
  • Languages

In each learning area or subject, content descriptions specify what young people will learn, and achievement standards describe the depth of understanding and the sophistication of knowledge and skill expected of students at the end of each year level or band of years.

Townsville Central State School teachers use the Curriculum into the Classroom (C2C) as a set of example planning resources to help them implement the Australian Curriculum. C2C materials provide a starting point for curriculum planning. Teachers are encouraged to adopt or adapt them to meet individual student learning needs and local contexts.

Students are constantly being assessed on their progress against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards for their year level.  Their progress is formally reported on at the end of each semester and the school offers Parent/Teacher meetings in Terms 1 and 3.  At any time parents can seek progress reports in relation to their child's achievements.
