Townsville Central State School is located on the site of Townsville's first gaol constructed in 1878. Through the use of creative planning concepts surviving features of the former gaol have been incorporated into the school design. New structures such as the Amphitheatre and Library have been constructed in recent years to accommodate the needs of students in the 21st century.
The school has one full computer lab and one mini lab and all classes have at least two desktops in their room. All rooms have interactive whiteboards and a range of peripherals are used throughout the school, including cameras, video cameras, iPads and digital microscopes.
Tuckshop and out of school hours care are services provided by the P&C.
