Communication between home and school is vital to ensure students are given every opportunity to succeed.

Communication to families

We communicate in a number of ways with families and the community. Our school newsletter is distributed each Thursday to the oldest student in each family and is also uploaded to our school website and available from the home page. If, for any reason you are not receiving the weekly newsletter, please contact your child's class teacher.

Information about school events and achievements are advertised on our school notice board on Warburton Street.
Class notes may be sent home by teachers to inform or gain permission regarding special events or to keep parents informed about class programs.

Parade is held every Monday morning in the amphitheatre - best accessed from the Warburton Street carpark. This is an opportunity for parents to find out more about what is happening in our school as well as setting the scene for the week ahead and celebrating the achievement of our students.

We do our best to maintain our school website to ensure that it contains the most up to date information for families and the community. Linked to our website is the QSchools app - available to download for iPhone, Android or Windows phone - information is updated on our website and is then available through the QSchools app.

We also use the Skoolbag app which allows us to communicate more directly with parents via a smartphone app available to download for iPhone and Android. We use this app to send messages that specifically relate to our school, particularly for celebrating achievements, cancellations of events at short notice, or reminders about upcoming events.

A P&C initiative commenced in 2015 is the Class Parent Reps program - a parent (or 2) nominate to be the class rep early in the year - they take on the task of communicating directly with the class teacher and parents using a combination of an email mailing list and printed notes. Parents provide their details to the class rep in order to participate.

Our school also has a Facebook page - search Townsville Central State School.

Communicating with teachers

Parents are welcome to meet with teachers at any time of the year to discuss their child’s progress. Unscheduled meetings before school are difficult for teachers as they are preparing for the day. Please contact the office or the teacher to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet.
All teachers have an Department of Education and Training email address. Often sending an email can be an effective form of communication if parents are unable to come to school to meet with teachers. Teacher email address are listed on the Our Staff page.

If parents have any questions or concerns or they would like to raise an issue, your child’s teacher is the first point of contact. If the issue cannot be resolved, parents should make a time to meet with the teacher and the principal together to work on a successful outcome.

Reporting

Formal interviews are offered to parents twice a year. These are conducted on a single afternoon/evening in terms 1 and 3. An online booking system enables parents to book a time, the link is available on the front page of the website.

Student academic reports are written at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. Parents or teachers may request an interview following the release of report cards. Currently student academic reports are printed and distributed on paper, however we will also plan to introduce electronic mailing of student academic reports - to ensure you receive a copy of your child's report, please provide the office with a current email address.
